Saturn v Launch at 500fps.

What do you get when you roll 16mm film at 500fps on the launch pad of the Apollo 11 Saturn V rocket? Nearly 9 minutes of awesomeness, complete with commentary. Now if only they had the Phantom Flex at the time…

The Symphony of Science

I just got introduced to The Symphony of Science today. It's a great site creating songs on-screen appearances by the likes of Carl Sagan, Bill Nye, Stephen Hawking and more. It's a little like Auto-Tune the News, but with science. Great find!

Dear Piano Spammer

Chances are, if you run a WordPress blog, you've seen this message, or one like it in your trackbacks or comments:

GrandPiano…

Hello :) I bookmarked this site. Thanks heaps for this!… if anyone else has anything, it would be much appreciated. Great website Super Pianoforte Links http://www.en.Grand-Pianos.org Enjoy!…

So here's the deal… Mr. Piano Douche (as I've now dubbed him, though his real name is Tomasz Michalowski1 according to his WHOIS lookup) seems to post everything from the IP 93.89.194.8. So if you want to block him, goto Settings:Discussion. There's a blacklist at the bottom enter that IP on one line and "grand-pianos.org" on another (just in case his IP changes).

Oh, and Mr. Piano Douche, if you're reading this, go to hell with all the other obnoxious spammers!

  1. And according to Google, there may be many people with this same name. []

Get the Old Facebook Newsfeed Back

So recently Facebook separated the "News Feed," which is now selective stories/updates chosen by some unknown algorithm, from the "Live Feed," the former news feed. Now, the News Feed might be more targeted (maybe), but I know many people don't like it.

Want to know how to get the old news feed back when you go to the home page? Here's how in 3 easy steps:

  1. Create a new friend list containing all your friends (or just the ones you care about).
  2. Move that list to the top by selecting "More," then dragging it up to the top of the list of… um… lists.
  3. Profit!1

I've been using something similar ever since Facebook introduced the live feed as the news feed last time they changed things. (Facebook is fickle, huh?) I have a list of people I really want to see up-to-date information for without getting bombarded by various people from grade school whom I haven't seen in nearly 15 years but for some reason keep as friends on Facebook. (Sorry former classmates…) So it took me a while to notice the new change. Hopefully this helps.

  1. Tired meme, I know… But still funny. []

“Make Something Great. Tell People About It. Do It Again.”

Great write up on why SEO is bad. The bottom line:

The problem with SEO is that the good advice is obvious, the rest doesn’t work, and it’s poisoning the web.

Worth the short read.
